Dear OCCPTA Presidents,
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! As the Orange Community Council’s REFLECTIONS Chair, I would like to encourage you to offer the National PTA’s REFLECTIONS Art Program at your school this year!
REFLECTIONS is a fun and easy way to promote and support creativity!
THE BASICS: Students are invited to create original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme (2016-17 theme is: “What Is Your Story”). Students create artworks at home (there are 6 categories) and bring them to school (due date is up to you, but usually mid-October). Their projects are displayed and judged at school. All student artists are recognized in some way for their efforts (certificates, prizes, awards ceremony-your choice). First place winners move on to compete against 1st place winners from other schools. The contest continues until national winners are selected.
PARTICIPATE!: Identify a chairperson at your school and get the word out to your students right away! First place artworks are due to me at the November 2nd Executive OCCPTA meeting.
If you or your school’s chairperson have Reflections questions, I am available to answer any questions. I have chaired the program at Linda Vista Elementary School for the last 9 years, so hopefully I will have any needed answers.
PLEASE CONSIDER OFFERING REFLECTIONS AT YOUR SCHOOL! With YOUR support and encouragement, we can keep the arts alive in Orange County! Let’s provide our students with this important opportunity to be creative! Our kids are talented, let’s give them a chance to tap into it and show it off!
With very best wishes,
Michelle Deziel Hernandez
